I thought it would be cool to post this loooong response to a simple yet detail required question. The person asking wanted to know what the hype for this is...this is my response...
Yes there is. Ok, so Lets say you have multiple phones IE home, cell, office. like you say, yes this is a great feature for having one number that goes with you where ever you go for those phones. BUT its not only about that. Its about having many features to use with this number as well. Currently I have one phone i use it with and its also connected via skype.
When someone one calls my phone if they are not in my contact list i can set it so they automatically get screened "caller state your name" and I have to choice answer, Listen in on their VM and answer it at any point, record the call, send the caller a voicemail or just flat out ignore it all together. I also can set different voicemail settings for each group within my contacts. Different groups will here a different voicemail or different groups will only ring certain phones at certain times. You can also flag annoying spam phone calls to go straight to voice mail.
This does not even include the SMS features (recieve sms on your phone and opt in to receive them via email) and free texting from your google voice inbox, similar to that of Gmail inbox.
So you ask how "what is the selling point for the average joe?" Well i guess #1 its free so you dont have to buy anything and there is no risk to try it out. And, its provides you with a large amount of features our carriers don't offer.
The link I posted was simply an update to the system. Google Voice already provides you with a transcription of your voicemail via SMS and Email, but now you can use that feature with YOUR number and is not limited to your GV number. Meaning you add your phone number to your GV account and activate Google Voicemail for that line. Now voicemails you get on your normal phone number will be transcribed and sent to your SMS and Email.
So there you have it. Is is for everyone? Yes i beleive anyone can find some of these features useful, and like i said, its FREE so whats the harm in trying it out? You have nothing to lose.
OK! Many of you don't know this but about a week and a half ago I was hired as a server at a local restaurant. However, after 5 days, several hours of studying their menu and 40 dollars for a alcohol license, I received a phone call from the restaurant manager. He called to inform me that the person whose place I was filling decided not to quit after all. Long story short, I was "un-hired," so-to-speak. That was almost a week ago and after a few follow up calls, I realized today that it was most likely not going to happen. In my mind I gave it up and thanked God He at least provided me the office position I'm working.
God had another plan in the works...Rewind to Sunday. I ran into an old friend who has managed several pizza places. We got to talking about my endeavors in the job search and so on. Then today I get a text from an unknown number. "Have you heard from them yet?" "No" I replied, "My hopes are not too high, who is this?" He responds with his name and says "Your hired. What days can I work you?" I was leveled and super excited that this door had been opened.
He hired me as a Shift Manager with the intentions of training me to eventually be his Assistant Manager!!
I am telling you this because I searched for a looooooooooooong time. I often wondered what I was going to do about my finances, yet knew God had a plan. You may be in a situation or a season of waiting....and waiting.....and waiting some more. But let me reassure you. God has his hand on your life and He will execute His plan in His perfect timing. And you know what? Its never to late or to soon....its perfect.
I was discouraged yet hopeful knowing He would provide and He did. Trust in God today, He will lead you and guide and at times you may have no idea why you are where you are...but His plan will be revealed.

Justin
Hello all,
I have decided it would be fun to get back into the habit of blogging. Today I will Blog about my favorite G1 apps. Why? well because I happen to think this phone is amazing...nuff said.
I will pick my top 5 faves.
1. "Unavailable" This app is an auto response system that automatically responds to a text message with a response you choose. Very useful for when you are working and away from your phone. Some think its cool and others don't like it as much. But I find comfort knowing that a person won't feel like I am ignoring them. "Nope just working"
2. "Wheres My Android" Have you ever lost your phone and when people say "Did you call it?" and your response is "its on vibrate, or silent mode." Well the problem is solved, Now now matter what mode your G1 is on you can text a special phrase to it and it will automatically go into loud mode and start ringing! Although make sure you change the phrase after use, unless you want that person to surprise you haha....yes this happened to me.
3. "ShopSavvy" This app is amazing!!! I have used it to get the lower price a couple of times. You simply scan the product and if the store does price matching then you are off to savings town!!
4. "Ring Droid" This app is cool cause you can take any song that is on your SD card, cut it, and turn it into a ring tone, You select what song and what part of the song. Pretty cool.
5. "SMS Popup" This app enables the messages you receive to pop up when you receive them, also you can change what color in the massive spectrum of colors you want the LED to flash, rate it flashes and even the vibration pattern.
All of the above apps are free and there are many out there, these are just a few that I like.
This is Anna...I just wrote a big long post and realized I was on Justin's account. HAHA
